Keynote Address
A nature positive transition to renewable energy is both possible and essential – reasons to be optimistic.
Professor Brendan Wintle
Main Hall
10:45 AM – 11:30 AM
A rapid transition to renewable energy is essential for mitigating climate change and preventing climate-driven extinctions.
However, poorly planned renewable energy developments can contribute to the biodiversity crisis and risk losing social licence if they negatively impact sensitive species, cultural values, or local communities.
In his keynote address, Brendan Wintle will present recent research showing how renewable energy can be strategically deployed to meet future energy demands cost-effectively while minimising impacts on biodiversity and agriculture. He will also explore other critical transitions needed to conserve biodiversity, and how these changes can benefit both people and the economy.
