Soliphilia
Caring for place, people, and nature through collective action.
Following last year’s sold-out Nature First conference, the 2025 CCWA Annual Conference once again brings people together to explore how we can respond to today’s climate and energy challenges, while protecting biodiversity and supporting local communities.
At the heart of this year’s event is soliphilia – a term coined by Professor Glenn Albrecht in 2009 to describe a deep love and sense of responsibility for the places we live, the people around us, and the natural world. This spirit of connection and care will guide every conversation and collaboration throughout the program.
Across the conference, we’ll explore how to accelerate the shift to renewable energy, reduce industrial emissions, and end harmful practices – all while protecting ecosystems for future generations. From preventing habitat loss to restoring natural environments, we’ll examine how a nature-positive renewable transition is both possible and essential.
The conference also highlights the central role of First Nations knowledge and connection to Country in shaping meaningful environmental action and decision-making.
With a diverse line-up of speakers, practical workshops, tools and discussions, a Member Group Expo, a Yarning Circle for open and respectful conversations, and plenty of opportunities to connect, this event is a space to learn, share, and work together for real change.
Your ticket includes full access to the program, Member Group Expo, Sundowner, and all catering throughout the event.
The Conservation Council of Western Australia’s annual conference is our flagship event – a space to connect, learn, and strengthen the collective movement for nature. Each year, change-makers, researchers, campaigners, First Nations leaders, and community members come together to share ideas, deepen understanding, and build momentum for lasting environmental action.
More than just a gathering, the conference celebrates our shared vision and determination to create systemic change. Through engaging discussions, practical workshops, film screenings, and interactive sessions, it’s a place to inspire collaboration and turn ideas into action.
